Most of our long term clients are familiar with the big, gentle, blue merle, Great Dane named Gracie. Gracie has been coming to the clinic with her owner Courtney Bainter since she was six weeks old.
In May of this year, at six years old, Gracie was diagnosed with a rare form of systemic lymphoma that started in her organs and spread to her skin and lymph nodes. The cancer was staged by the pathologist as extremely aggressive. We were all heartbroken but none as much as Courtney who treats her animals like her children.
Because Gracie's general health had been very good and she was not suffering even after the cancer was diagnosed, Courtney decided to pursue chemotherapy. Gracie is doing exceptionally well. Her cancer is in remission and she takes her treatments with the quiet dignity that her name implies.

"For all children everywhere. May you drench your interactions with our animal kin with respect, compassion, spirit, humility, and love. Keep hope even when things seem grim. Don't let go of your dreams. There are many better tomorrows......."Marc Bekoff
